Workshops
I hold workshops in my watercolour technique and in my free motion machine sewing.
Watercolours. Students range in ages but mainly adults, where a two-day workshop teaches them how to stretch watercolour paper, draw from a photograph using a grid and then my take on colour theory using the warm and cool colours.
I have done several workshops as a guest tutor, and several now that I have hosted myself, each one taking up to 10 students, some students are total beginners, yet each time my students produce the most amazing pieces of artwork, and go home feeling accomplished, and proud of their work. It is a fun two days, full on with information. I love doing them.
They learn not to be afraid of watercolours, the basics, how they work and how to make them work for them! Brushes to use and what type of paint. They leave with the tools to experiment at home and develop their own watercolour techniques, unafraid of colour and how to be bold with their paintings.
Below are a few examples of my students with their finished pieces of stunning art work, their smiles tell an amazing story.
The free motion sewing workshops are held over one day, based on my Out of the Ashes textile pictures. This was after I produced my popular textile image of an area near my home the spring after a fire had ravished the area. the wildflowers were like thick carpets around the blackened trees.
Students are given the opportunity to practice skills and produce an image which they can continue working on at their leisure.
Using the free motion sewing technique, just straight and zigzag stitching, the basic materials for applique, the workshop helps sewers experience the diversity of this way of sewing. Embellished with hand stitching and beads the finished pictures are amazing.
Yvonne teaches art to a small group of students and holds workshops in her watercolour techniques and colour theory.
