About

Yvonne Chapman-Brooks. I was born in Coventry in the UK. After finishing grammar school, I studied at Hartford Art College, Northwich where I completed a year ground course and one year foundation course in art and design. I then went to Coventry Lanchester Polytechnic (now Coventry University) where I obtained my BA (Hons) in graphic design in early 1980s.

Times were hard in the UK in 80’s and as art related jobs were near impossible to obtain, I re-trained as a Registered Nurse. I then emigrated to Australia and worked in the emergency department at Royal Perth Hospital in Western Australia.

I rekindled my art passion in the mid 90’s and began painting pet and animal commissions in 2010. My style has changed considerably over the years. I now specialise in watercolours and acrylics, and have developed a bright, “rainbow” style for my watercolours, which have proven to be immensely popular. This began after being asked by a Galgo rescue in Spain, (Galgos Del Sol) to design “Rainbow bridge” cards for them as condolence cards. I loved the way I could use colour in my portraits.

I began my textile artwork about 10 years ago, using applique and free motion machine sewing, thread painting and what ever made the right mark for the piece. I have won several awards for my textile artwork and wall hangings, the most famous was True Blue Mates, which won prizes in Australia and in the USA, and Carousel which won best use of colour in the Mancuso World of Quilts, USA.

Having recently remarried after the death of my first husband, I now use the signature of Yvonne Chapman-Brooks on my artworks.

My prints are available for sale or contact me to discuss your commission requirements.
